An Intimate Wedding on a Kentucky Family FarmI first met Isabel and Ben when they booked me for two engagement sessions at the same time—a spring session and a summer session. We met in my home state of Washington, and while getting to know them, I learned they were actually from the other side of the country. During their second session, they asked me a magical question: “Do you travel?” Next thing I knew, we were planning their photo timeline for their two-day wedding celebration in beautiful Georgetown, Kentucky.

For the two days of their celebration that they booked me to cover, they planned an intimate wedding ceremony at Ben’s parents’ beautiful property, with rolling green hills as far as the eye could see. Their second day took place at Whiskey Thief Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, where they celebrated with bourbon tastings and a huge party for all of their loved ones. There’s something special about weddings where every single guest knows the couple well. Isabel and Ben kept their celebration small, inviting around 40 of their closest family members and friends to celebrate with them on Ben’s family farm just outside Georgetown. The setting couldn’t have been more fitting, with wide open fields, rolling green hills, and the kind of peaceful views that make you want to stay a little longer.

Even with a smaller guest list, they both had big bridal parties, which made the entire morning feel lively from the moment everyone arrived.

A Morning Filled with Laughter

One of my favorite parts of the day was simply watching everyone enjoy themselves.

Isabel and her bridesmaids gathered on the front porch to pop champagne before getting dressed, and it quickly turned into one of those moments where nobody could stop laughing. Meanwhile, Ben and his groomsmen wandered over to an old rope swing on the property. Against everyone’s better judgment, they decided to see if it still held up. Thankfully it did, and it made for some hilarious photos before the formalities of the day began.

Those are the kinds of moments I love documenting because they’re completely natural. Nothing is forced, and years from now they’re the memories that instantly bring people back to how the day actually felt.

Sweet First Looks Before the Ceremony

Before guests arrived, Isabel and Ben shared a quiet first look together overlooking the property, and their smiles said it all.

Not long after, they surprised their entire bridal party with another first look. Watching all of their closest friends react at once was such a fun moment and brought so much excitement leading into the ceremony.

A Ceremony That Felt Like Home

Their ceremony was officiated by a close friend’s mom, which made it feel even more personal. Their entire bridal party also participated in their ring warming ceremony, which is always a sweet and tender moment. Surrounded by family, lifelong friends, and the Kentucky countryside, Isabel and Ben exchanged vows in a setting that already meant so much to them.

Sometimes the simplest ceremonies end up feeling the most meaningful, and this was definitely one of them.

Golden Light and a Relaxed Evening

After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a laid-back cocktail hour with plenty of wine, snacks, and plenty of laughs. Without a huge guest list or packed timeline, Isabel and Ben were able to actually spend time with the people they invited, which is one of my favorite things about intimate weddings.

As the sun started to set, we snuck away for portraits while the Kentucky countryside turned golden. The light that evening was absolutely unreal, spilling across the rolling hills and creating the dreamiest backdrop for their newlywed portraits.

Those quiet moments together ended up being some of my favorite photographs from their entire wedding weekend.

Getting to photograph Isabel and Ben’s wedding felt like such a full-circle moment. We started with two engagement sessions in Washington, and months later I found myself standing on a beautiful family farm in Kentucky documenting one of the biggest days of their lives.
